early season session

For the last two months all Ive wanted to do is get some turns in the snow, but due to school and just life, it hasn't happened. I usually ride at The Canyons, its a great resort for just your everyday needs. Has a pretty good park and lots of fun terrain, and just so much to explore. Every year I find something new.
However they just dropped the bomb this year and announced that they wont be opening till Dec 10! They are pretty much redoing the whole mountain so it is understandable, but with all this snow I just want to get on the slopes.

Me and fellow riding friends Darren Dickerson and Todd Lippard and a few others decided to go get some first turns of the season and hike up in Little Cottonwood Canyon's Grizzly Gulch.Prime spot for some powder.

Darren just picked up a new Hd GoPro. So we got a few shots to test it out. Here's some raw footage and photos from our last run

enjoy...

How Do You Mountain?

This is the question that The Canyons ski resort is asking of people. They have a new job at the canyons that was just too good for me to pass up. The job is to blog for the resort for 4 months about all The Canyons offers. For four months of blogging they'll pay you 40gs and give you a ton of other perks. Check it out Howdoyoumountain.com.

With over 400 applicants, it's going to be a tough job to get, but here's my go at it.

Ive been spending a lot of this spring on the Rocks. I have a few good buddies who are avid climbers, so I usually get pushed into doing some lead climb I'm definitely not in shape for. Mostly we've been up in little cotton wood canyon in salt lake, and we did few sessions in rock canyon and The Quarry down in Utah Valley.
For a long time I've climbed on and off, but I've never gotten set up with my own gear and really committed to it. These last few climbs have definitely pushed me into doing it more.

Good Find...The wasatch acadamy

Me, my brothers Clayt and Ryan, and my normal riding buddies Darren Dickerson and Bryce Hoer thought it would be fun to get some spring powder, so we forked out a few bucks and rented a snowmobile. Darren had heard there was some good trails and good snow south of the Uintas near Fairview. So we headed up not really knowing what we were getting ourselves into. As we headed up the canyon nothing was looking to promising and it was looking like we had just spent a few hundred on a nice scenic drive. Toward the top of the canyons we made a turn and literally there is was. The Wasatch Academy, a snowboard ski school for local kids in area. The place was just so random and in the middle of no where. There were jumps and plenty of fun jibs. We unloaded the ski and towed each other up and down the closed park all day. We had it all to ourselves.

I put together just a fun little video, not much good riding but we got a few good shots.

My dad had this idea years ago to shoot pictures of guys at the beach surfing and then sell them online. To any surfer its a genius idea. No one likes to be the guy sitting on the beach taking pictures their friends all day. Being in high school my priorities were else where and it never really happened.
So this last year with a little more time on my hands Ive been looking into doing it but on the mountains. So I got a couple business savvy kids together and my brothers to help me out and next thing I know we had a brand, the site was up, and we were shooting photos of kids in the park. We decided we would take things slow and just test it out and see if it could go anywhere. 85% of new products fail but 75% of new products are never tested. So we headed out to do a few free photo sessions.
The Canyons beta testing went really well. We shoot about 50-60 kids in just over an hour in the park and had about 350 page hits by that night and another 300 the next day. That 650 different computers(ip addresses) so we were pretty stoked to see the word getting around to riders social networks. We had a few more test shoots that followed the same pattern.
As of now were kinda in limbo waiting for the next season and if things go to plan, will start price testing the 10/11 season.
Its been a ton of fun, so whether is works out or not its been a blast.

Who needs an SLR

Some photos from Indonesia, Spain, France, UK, Utah!, Switzerland, West Timor and Italy. Just some of my favorites.
Most of these were actually shot on a Canon powershot and a few from a Nikon D90.
Ive taken three years of college level photography in film and digital, and probably the most important aspect of photography that I've leaned, is that it's really all about the photographer and not the camera.
I still wouldn't mind a nice Canon EOS 5D Mark II hddslr that's for sure.
Take a peep.
